Cory Barnhart Cues
Crafted with care in West Virginia, USA.
Hats off to Cory Barnhart who took on this special John Davis blank fullsplice project we had discussed prior to SBE2023. Through my business, I’ve known Cory more than 15 years and without looking closely, admired his cue craft. He’s also a straightforward and honorable a man to deal with.
At the recommendation of Paul Drexler, I was fortunate to be the only dealer John Davis had for his blanks. In the mid to later 60’s John made machinery for Burton Spain and along with Burton, he sold blanks to legendary cuemaker George Balabushka.
Around 2009, I was a reseller of ebony, birdseye and hard curly maple as part of my business. I was also working part-time at Ariel Carmeli’s cue shop then.
Anyway, by this time I had squirreled away lots of pieces of super figured maple and other exotic woods.
I approached John with the idea of making a dozen fullsplice blanks pointed on both ends without veneers. He was reluctant, informing me that making blanks without veneers was more difficult than making them with veneers. By this time John and I had a friendly relationship where there was good enthusiasm for the blank building and cues. The no veneer blanks were not meant to be sold. They were meant to be built into cues by me (with Ariel’s help) or another cuemaker I could trust to do justice to the blanks. About 6-7 years ago Dave Barenbrugge built out a couple of them with his amazing compound ringsets. They sold lightning fast.
The fullsplice Davis blank cues arrived this week from Cory. I’m delighted with the first tier build quality! Cory’s expertise and experience is clearly evident in each cue. Even points (not easy to achieve) and fit and finish on the money. Delrin joint caps for everything. All cues individually bagged. Everything packed carefully. John Davis is surely smiling from Heaven.
A huge thank you to Cory for building these fullsplice blanks out as I know he usually does not do blank builds.
